A Cervejaria Huyghe

Fundada em 1906 por Léon Huyghe, a Cervejaria Huyghe possui uma história secular, que data desde 1654.

É cervejaria é única na Bélgica, pois detém o maior portfólio de cervejas - 22 cervejas diferentes e é o único com uma cerveja (Mongozo) que carrega os três rótulos de fairtrade, sem glúten e orgânicos.
E continua inovando, com o recente lançamento da nova cerveja da abadia Averbode.
No entanto, a Delirium Tremens continua a ser o carro-chefe da cervejaria e a cerveja do elefante rosa está sendo exportada para mais de 85 países em todo o mundo.

Pelo menos desde 1654 há um traço definido de uma atividade cervejeira no Appelhoek em Melle.

Em 1906, a cervejaria local foi adquirida por Léon Huyghe, que havia entrado quatro anos antes. A empresa é então chamada de cervejaria Den Appel (La Pomme em francês), referindo-se à localidade Appelhoek. Seu filho e genro sucederam Léon em 1925. A cervejaria então produzia principalmente pils. Em 1936, a cervejaria foi renomeada Brasserie Léon Huyghe.

Jean de Laet, marido de uma neta de Léon Huyghe, chega à empresa na década de 1980 e lança a cervejaria na produção de cerveja de alta fermentação. Artevelde, Minty (cerveja verde com hortelã), Poiluchette, Guillotine (passeio pelo bicentenário da Revolução Francesa) são então comercializados.

Em 26 de dezembro de 1989, o Delirium Tremens foi fabricado pela primeira vez. Esta cerveja fez a reputação da cervejaria. Novos produtos são criados regularmente: Floris, Mongozo, etc1.

Em 2005, a cervejaria comemorou seus 350 anos. A capacidade atual da cervejaria é de 148.000 hectolitros. Está atualmente em fase de extensão e em breve chegará a 300.000 hectolitros.
